GILBERT, ARIZ. --- The Trojans battled in their final match of 2021 against the Buccaneers of Park University Gilbert yesterday afternoon. Despite a tight game through the initial three quarters, Trinity came out on top, winning the game 66-53 over Park-Gilbert.
After a tied score four different times, the Trojans ended the first quarter behind by a single point. Da'Naria Washington put Trinity on the board first, then the Buccaneers equalized and pulled ahead quickly after a couple of layups. Going 3-4 at the free throw line in the initial ten minutes, Daniela Lopez began another career-high scoring game.
In the second quarter, the Trojans increased their defensive pressure causing four turnovers; throughout the game Trinity would capitalize on turnover opportunities to add 15 points to the scoreboard. The Trojans closed the gap and pulled ahead by two points with Alina Jahnke providing a couple of steals and adding seven points to the scoreboard.
Starting the third quarter with a slight edge, Trinity maintained their lead while holding Park-Gilbert to only 25% shooting accuracy. Lopez added another six points to the score, including a couple of 3-pointers that would lead to another career best at the final whistle.
The Trojans turned up the heat in the final quarter, and the Buccaneers couldn't keep up. Breleigh Gula opened up the fourth quarter scoring before Daniela Lopez joined in adding another 3-pointer to start a 10-4 run for the Trojans. With the score at 57-47, the Buccaneers gave one last push and brought the score within six points, but that's all the Trojans would allow as they sank one free throw after another, after another.

- Daniela Lopez broke her career high points scored with 22, after previously setting it at 18 the game prior. The sophomore from Leon, Spain also tied her career high 3-pointers with four

- Saskia Stegbauer earned her second highest scoring game with six points
