BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- Last Saturday the Trojans were back at their home court to tip off against the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University in another CCAC match-up. Coming off of a tough loss to Olivet earlier in the week, Trinity hoped to bounce back strong but ultimately fell to St. Ambrose 80-63.
The first quarter started off slow with just six points scored by the Bees in the initial five minutes. Play was back and forth across the court, but the Trojans couldn't seem to drop it into the net. As the quarter went on,
Aniyjha Graves would come in and sink three consecutive free throws, followed by a couple points added by
Carly Scheblo to finish off the first quarter 17-7.
In the second quarter, the Trojan's focus and shooting percentage increased as
Alina Jahnke put up six points and Graves contributed another four including Trinity's first three-pointer of the game. Despite a higher shooting percentage and rebounding better than St. Ambrose on both sides of the ball, Trinity trailed 30-23 at the half.
With renewed energy, Trinity came out of the break with their best quarter of the game shooting 100% from behind the arc and at the line. Graves would continue her consistency, converting all shots but one and dropping another seven points.
Entering the fourth quarter at 56-43, the Trojans still had some work to do in their attempt to mount a comeback. Though five of seven Trojans posted a combined twenty points, it wouldn't be enough to overcome the score deficit and they subsequently fell to the Fighting Bees with a final score of 80-63.
Graves led the Trojans on attack for the afternoon with 16 points in the loss, as Jahnka posted another 11 points with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Scheblo finished the game with 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
