WHEELING, Ill. --- While much of the month of February has been dominated by cold temperatures, the day couldn't have been better for the TIU women's soccer team as they opened the 2020-21 season on Tuesday afternoon at the Heritage Park Sports Complex against the Governors State Jaguars in conference play. After the fall season was postponed to the spring due to COVID-19, the Trojans finally got a chance to take the field, 474 days after their previous match in November of 2019.
Trinity would get a number of shot opportunities in the first half, but failed to find the back of the net, defended by GSU's Eden Suda. Defensively, the Trojans kept goalkeeper Sarah Davis with little resistance, managing to keep the ball out of the offensive zone for much of the match.
With the sun setting and regulation time winding down, the Trojans finally cracked the scoreboard for the first time this season with Abigail Olsson scoring in the 81st minute off an assist from Cameron Hunter. Two minutes later, Hunter would net her own score unassisted off a corner kick, helping secure the 2-0 win for TIU to kick off the season in the final minutes
