BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- In the first of back-to-back days of competition, the TIU women's volleyball team welcomed the Jaguars of Governors State to Van Dixhorn Arena on Friday night in a match-up of Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) team. Coming off a thrilling 3-2 win over Cardinal Stritch on Monday, the Trojans looked to pick up their fourth win in league play and hold on to their grip on the upper half of the league standings.
Trinity dominated the match from the opening serve, greatly limiting their errors on their attacks, while the Jaguars struggled to get their offense to flow. After a closely contested opening frame, TIU roared ahead with an 11-1 run after being tied at ten as the blue and white claimed the first set, 25-15.Â
The Trojans would again close strong, this time in the second set with a 7-0 run, backed by three kills by Brianna Torres, Madeline Decker and Deb Kovalczuk, while Emma Gallegos a pair of service aces to take the second frame, 25-18. TIU blazed across the finish line in the third, holding the Jaguars to just two kills and eight attack errors. Trinity would score 12 of the final 14 points in the set, winning 25-11 and completing the three set sweep.Â
Torres led the Trojans with 14 kills in the win, while Matty Hawkins recorded ten, plus three total blocks. Anna Skrypchak notched 31 assists on the night, as Gallegos recorded five total service aces.
