GOSHEN, Ind.. --- The TIU softball team continued their spring break trip throughout Indiana and Illinois on Wednesday afternoon as they visited the Maple Leafs of Goshen College in non-conference play. Coming off a pair of losses yesterday at Taylor (Ind.), the Trojans looked to rebound against their opponent from the Crossroads League.
In game one, the Trojans opened up the scoring as Madison Lenzke notched a single to left field, scoring on a Waverly Miller single and a Goshen fielding error in the top of the second. The Leafs would tie the game in the bottom of the third before scoring four runs of TIU starter Alyssa Frey in the fourth.Â
Trinity responded in the top of the fifth as Miller reached base on a walk and scored as Kristin Storer hit a two-run home run to left field to cut the Goshen lead to 5-3. Unfortunately, Storer's home run would be all the Trojans could put together as the Leafs tacked on two more runs on a pair of hits and an error to take game one by a final score of 7-3.
Frey would get starting duties for the second straight game as the Leafs jumped on TIU continued fielding errors with six total runs in the second and third innings. After a Kayla Stacy single in the top of the fifth, Storer launched her second home run of the day over the fences to put Trinity on the board. Goshen however would respond in the bottom of the sixth with four additional runs, including a three-run home run to give the Leafs the eight run lead needed to end the game early, handing TIU the 10-2 loss.
