Trinity drops two at No. 5 Marian

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.. --- A day after being postponed due to rain, the TIU softball team returned to the diamond as they faced the Marian University Knights in a non-conference doubleheader on Friday morning. After a day off to rest, the Trojans would face a tough task going up against the fifth-ranked team in the nation.

Hailey Baker would get the start for TIU in game one, which featured very little offense on either side. Baker would allow four hits and the only run in the game in the bottom of the third as Marian's Raegan Hiatt grounded out to second base, allowing Savannah Harweger to score from third with the bases loaded.

Trinity would record only two hits in the opener, with a leadoff single by Kristin Storer to start the game, and a fourth inning single by Britney Knox. Despite a mistake free game defensively, the Trojans could not respond at the plate, dropping the opening game 1-0.

In game two, Alyssa Frey would take on starting duties. After getting the first two batters out to start the bottom of the first, Frey would allow a single and stolen base, before a Sarah Kush single would score the first run of the game. While not allowing bases on balls, the Trojans would give up 13 hits in game two, tacking on two runs in both the second and fourth innings.

Trinity would find some momentum in the sixth innings, with Knox notching a single to third base, and Frey reaching base on an infield error, but could not scratch any runners across home plate. The Knights would score three more threes in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 8-0, and end the game after six.
