PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. --- The TIU men's soccer team travelled to the southside on Tuesday afternoon as they battled the Trinity Christian College Trolls at Shaaf Field in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a 2-0 home loss last Saturday night to Saint Xavier, the Trojans looked to snap their two-match skid by taking on their conference rival and looking to retain the rivalry's traveling trophy, the Trinity Shield.
The Trojans started off holding a majority of possession but struggled to find the frame in the first half with two shots from Tyler Kooi, with neither finding the net. TCC started to find a rhythm later in the first half which would give them ten shots, but they also struggled to find the back of the net as TIU goalkeeper Andre Wentzel kept up a strong presence in the penalty area. At the halftime break, the match would remain scoreless.Â
Both teams started the second half strong, but it would be the Trolls who would go ahead after a service by Ben Boers would find Luis Arredondo on a bicycle kick, just out of Wentzel's reach to give the Trolls the go ahead goal in the 77th minute. Just two minutes later, the Trojans would get their opportunity after a foul in the box would give Zach Mawdsley the penalty kick to even the game. However, TCC keeper Mathis Mueller would come up with the big save to deny Mawdsley from scoring the equalizing goal, holding off TIU and handing the Trojans the 1-0 loss.
The Trolls would outshoot the Trojans 17-4 and both teams would have a lot of fouls in this physical game.Â
The Trolls would hold the Trojans off for the 1-0 win, making this the third straight shutout loss for the Trojans. The Trojans take on Roosevelt University in Wheeling, Illinois on Thursday at 8:30pm in hopes to recover from the past few losses.
