SOUTH BEND, Ind. --- The TIU women's soccer team hit the road on Tuesday afternoon as they visited the Saints of Holy Cross College in South Bend in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. Coming off a strong 8-0 shutout of IU-Northwest on senior day last Saturday, the Trojans looked to carry that momentum into their play against a worthy conference opponent.
After a fairly even first 25 minutes that saw the Saints take six shots on offense, the Trojans would strike first as Kinsey Gomez found the back of the net off an assist by Payton Siragusa to take a 1-0 lead. After carrying that lead into the halftime break, Lauren Henn would double the Trinity lead ten minutes into the second half as she slipped the ball past HCC's Chloe Kantelo to make it 2-0 in favor of TIU.
The Saints however, who saw more opportunities to attack on goal than the Trojans throughout the day, would strike back as Holy Cross' Taelyn Henrickson put HCC on the board in the 70th minute with a goal getting past TIU goalkeeper Sarah Davis. 15 minutes later, Hendrickson would find the net again, taking another shot and even the score at 2-2 to give energy to the Saints.
With the score tied at two goals a piece, the match would go to overtime. Unfortunately, the Trojans would not get much of an opportunity as Bella Cuevas scored on an assist by Olivia Shaw just 90 seconds into extra time, handing TIU the 3-2 loss.
