WHEELING, Ill. --- The TIU women's soccer team returned home on Thursday afternoon as they hosted the Red Lions of Lincoln Christian University in non-conference action at Wheeling's Heritage Park Sports Complex. Coming off a difficult overtime loss at Holy Cross (IN) on Tuesday night, the Trojans looked to bounce back with a win at home as the season enters its final week and a half.
Trinity dominated possession on the afternoon in a match that saw their offense roll off of fast breaks and LCU turnovers. Kailynd Tubb cracked the scoreboard for the Trojans first in the 16th minute unassisted, before Cameron Hunter netted TIU's second goal off an assist by Lauren Henn just 30 seconds later.
The Lions' Audrey Henningsen would cut TIU's lead in half in the 24th minute, but the Trojans quickly responded with Kinsey Gomez returning Trinity's lead back to two goals on an unassisted goal in the final seconds of the first half. TIU's offense showcase continued in the second half with five goals, two coming from Henn on an assist by Abigail Olsson in the 66th minute, and another unassisted in the 73rd.Â
Henn would return the favor as she assisted Olsson on a goal in the 68th minute. Shayne Busick and Madison Martinez would account for TIU's final two goals in the 71st and 78th minutes respectively as the Trojans cruised to an impressive 8-1 victory.
