JOLIET, Ill. --- The TIU men's soccer team took on the St. Francis (IL) Fighting Saints on Saturday afternoon at Joliet Memorial Stadium in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off an impressive 8-1 senior day win over Lincoln Christian on Thursday, the Trojans looked to carry their offensive momentum over to league play after their non-conference win two days ago.
The game started out even with both teams holding a good percentage of possession, but the Saints would strike first as Morgan McKenzie would find the back of the net behind TIU goalkeeper Andre Wentzel in the 24th minute for the 1-0 lead. USF would strike again when Amin Mizyed would find the goal in the 36th minute for the 2-0 lead. Just minutes later, Zakhar Shkidchenko would put Trinity in a 3-0 hole with another goal for the Saints. St. Francis would outshoot TIU 16-3 in the first 45 minutes with four corner kicks.
The second half would be similar to the first as Mizyed would find the net again in the 58th minute for his seventh goal of the year. Anthony Marmolejo would put his name in the books in the 64th minute for the final score of the match, giving the Saints a comfortable 5-0 lead to hand the Trojans the tough loss and drop Trinity to 2-5 in CCAC play.Â
That would be the Saints final goal this game, out shooting the Trojans in this game 38-4 for the dominant win and maintaining their spot in the conference standings with 16 points.
