WHEELING, Ill. --- The TIU men's soccer team welcomed the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University to a windy Heritage Park Sports Complex on Tuesday night in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a tough 5-0 loss at St. Francis (IL) in their previous match, the Trojans were eager to bounce back with the regular season beginning to reach its end.
The game started out even as TIU maintained pressure with a few opportunities on goal, but it would be the Tigers who would strike first after a through ball from Edgar Pani would give Max Jasper the ball to do some work where he would find the back of the net passed Trinity goalkeeper Andre Wentzel for the 1-0 lead in the 38th minute. The Trojans tried to respond but could not find the back of the net taking seven shots and finding the frame on six of them in the first 45 minutes. ONU would have a last second opportunity from a corner kick that would fall from Wentzel to Alec Thornburg with time expiring to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break
The second half would start with the wind in TIU's favor as they had a few opportunities in the first minutes of the half. The blue and white would finally make their statement in the game after a great through ball and pressure from Josiah Fuchs would tip off of center back ONU's Ethan Morgan's foot for an own goal and give back some energy to the Trojans in the 53rd minute.Â
Trinity would have a few more opportunities to get back into the game, but as a last effort in the final minutes, James Lynch would get a long ball over the top for the one-on-one with Wentzel to capitalize with a couple seconds on the clock, giving Olivet Nazarene the 3-1 win over TIU.
