BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU women's volleyball team returned home to Van Dixhorn Arena on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Roosevelt Lakers in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. Coming off a tough 3-0 road loss at Cardinal Stritch on Thursday night, the Trojans looked to bounce back entering the final stretch of the season.
Like their previous meeting back on February 27 in Arlington Heights, the Lakers put up a fight despite their 1-14 record entering the day. The Trojans were able to rely on 32 Roosevelt attack errors for several of their points throughout the afternoon. TIU would lead from start to finish in the opening set on their way to a 25-22 win.
In the second set, the Lakers would jump out to a small lead before Trinity stormed back to take control on a 4-0 run backed by a Maledine Trippett service ace and Brianna Torres kill. After Roosevelt tied the set at six point all, TIU reeled off a strong 7-0 run to open up a comfortable lead en route to a 25-14 second set win.
The third set saw much of the same as the Trojans took the lead after a quick Laker start. Roosevelt would struggle to set up their attack after Trinity returns as TIU held the Lakers to six kills in the set. The Trojan defense closed the match out forcing Roosevelt into a pair of attack errors to secure the 25-15 set win, and the three set sweep.
Torres led the Trojans with 11 kills in the win, with Anna Skrzypchak notching 21 assists. Jaylyn Freeman recorded 11 digs on defense, while Trippett notched two service aces.
With the win, head coach Luke Ward also earned the 96th win of his TIU coaching career, passing Jill Rokosik as the winningest coach in the history of the Trojan women's volleyball program.
