WHEELING, Ill. --- The TIU women's soccer team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon as they took on the Olivet Nazarene Tigers at the Heritage Park Sports Complex in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) play. Coming off a 2-1 win at St. Francis (IL) last weekend on the road, the Trojans looked at a tough challenge facing off against one of the top teams in the league for their final regular season home match of the year.
The Tigers started the match off with the wind in their favor as possession would be held by them for most of the half, while the Trojans had a difficult time clearing the ball forward. ONU would have 12 shots in the half and put six of them on frame, but the Tigers would not be empty handed as a service from Abby Cash would find Katie Knutte across the goal for the easy tap in 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute. Trinity would not be able to find a shot as the wind played a big factor, but they held high hopes as they would have the opportunity in the second half.
The second half would start out more evenly as the Trojans had more possession to start, but that wouldn't stop the Tigers from having six shots in the half. Morgan Busick would connect with Payton Siragusa on a give-and-go play as Busick would slot the ball past ONU goalkeeper Samantha Tuuk in the 68th minute for the equalizing goal. TIU would only have two shots in the half, but were able to defend well in the final minutes to force the match into overtime.
With the wind in their favor, the Trojans would capitalize just 43 seconds into overtime after a service from Shayne Busick would connect with Cameron Hunter over Tuuk for the game winning goal for Trinity to end the match 2-1.
