Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Trinity opens home play with 3-1 win over Crimson Wave

WHEELING, Ill. --- The TIU men's soccer team opened the home portion of their 2020-21 schedule on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the Crimson Wave of Calumet St. Joseph at the Heritage Park Sports Complex. After a thrilling overtime last weekend at Saint Ambrose, the Trojans looked to post a second consecutive win in league play.

In a match where CCSJ played with just ten players, Trinity overwhelmingly dominated possession of the ball throughout the afternoon. It would take a few attempts to break through the Crimson Wave defense, but Trenton Garside broke the scoreless tie in the 20th minute on an assist by Tyler Kooi, the lone goal of the first half.

Calumet St. Joseph, who would garner just one shot attempt all afternoon, made their chances worth it as they scored just three minutes into the second half to tie the match at one goal a piece. The Trojan's offensive pressure could ultimately reap its rewards of playing in the offensive zone for most of the day as TIU drew a foul, allowing Zach Mawdsley to net the ultimate game-winning score on a penalty kick in the 70th minute. Nine minutes later, Xavier Brown would net a third Trinity goal off a second assist by Kooi, allowing TIU to wrap up the final ten minute comfortably and secure the 3-1 win.
