NCCAA All-Region basketball selections released

The National Christian College Athletic Association's (NCCAA) North-Central region released its all-region selections on Monday, after the conclusion of the regular season and conference tournament play. Four Trojans earned all-regional honors for their play this season, as voted on by the region's coaches.

On the women's side, junior Alina Jahnke and sophomore Taylor Hibicke both earned all-region honors, the second consecutive selection to the honor for both. For the men, Brandon McQueen and Brandon Lawani also earned selection to the all-region team, the first NCCAA all-region selection for both.

Jahnke, a Borkum, Germany native, led the Trojans in scoring (288 points), rebounds (181) and blocks (91) in her final season before early graduation, helping TIU earn the seventh-seed in the CCAC Tournament. Alina was also a second team All-CCAC honoree this season, as well as an NAIA and NCCAA Scholar-Athlete, and CCAC All-Academic selection last season.

Hibicke, the Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin product, earns her third honor from the NCCAA, after being named all-region in 2020, as well as a third team All-American by the NCCAA. Taylor averaged 10.1 points and 6.2 assists per game this season, helping the Trojans finish seventh in CCAC and earn a win in the first round of the conference tournament against Lincoln.

McQueen, the senior guard from Cleveland, Ohio led Trinity in scoring with 384 points, as well as assists, and made three-point field goals during the shortened 2020-21 season. Brandon ended his collegiate career with two dominant games, notching a career-high 40 points against St. Francis (IL), and another 21 against Olivet Nazarene in the CCAC Tournament. At the time of the end of TIU's season, McQueen led the conference in steals (43) and assists (86),ranked third in scoring(389 points), and fifth in made three-point baskets (47). McQueen was also named second team all-conference in late February.

Lawani finished his junior season with 336 points, second only to McQueen, but led the team in field goal percentage from the floor (56.8%). Trinity's leading rebounder with 133 total boards, the Bolingbrook, Illinois native also led the blue and white with 29 blocks. Brandon's 21 point per game ranked fourth in league, and 8.3 rebounds sixth in the conference. Lawani set a number of career-high marks this season, including points (34), made field goals (13), made free throws (11), total rebounds (15), assists (9), and blocks (5). Lawani also earned second team All-CCAC honors this season after picking up an honorable mention selection in 2019 from the league.

By virtue of finishing in the top five in voting on their respective all-region teams, Jahnke, McQueen and Lawani are all eligible for NCCAA All-American honors.
