Percival homers as TIU falls to SXU in doubleheader

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU softball team returned home on Monday afternoon as they welcomed the Cougars of Saint Xavier to campus for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader. Entering the day having dropped three of their previous four, the Trojans faced a tough test as they took on a SXU team ranked in the NAIA top 25 poll.

Alyssa Frey would start game one for Trinity looking to snap a four-game losing streak for inside the pitcher's circle. The Cougar offense would attack from the start with five base hits in the game and 15 total hits. SXU's Allison Golic brought the fire in the opener, keeping the Trojans out of the hit column and allowing just one walk to TIU's Lauren Neveau for her fourth no hitter of the season as the Trojans dropped game one by a final of 7-0.

In game two, Hailey Baker started inside the pitcher's circle and helped tame the Cougars early and throughout much of the game, allowing just three runs. After Saint Xavier took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Dana Percival responded with a two-run home run following a Neveau single to put TIU on the board. SXU would take the lead however on a three-run double by Tori Keilman to ultimately win the game by a score of 4-2. Baker would end the game with six strikeouts, her fourth game this season with at least six punchouts.
