DAVENPORT, Iowa --- Following a tough pair of losses on Tuesday night at home against St. Francis, the TIU softball team returned to action late on Wednesday afternoon as they took on the Saint Ambrose Fighting Bees at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader. With just six games to go in the regular season, the Trojans looked to snap their recent skid ahead of next week's conference tournament.

The two-game set would be a low scoring affair with Alyssa Frey taking on pitching duties in game one. For the second straight game, Frey presented excellent command over her pitches, walking just one and striking out seven while allowing three hits. SAU's Allison Polly would provide the Bees with their three hits, including a triple, but the Trojan defense, which induced 11 groundouts and three fly outs. Gina Loy would score the lone run of the game for Trinity with a one out double to left-center field, scoring on a Kristin Storer double down the left-field line in the top of third inning to give TIU the narrow 1-0 victory. 

In game two, Hailey Baker took to the pitcher's circle, looking to replicate her strong start from her game two start a day earlier. The Bees would find their swing that was missing in the opener with two runs on five hits off of Baker, including a pair of doubles. The Trojan offense would be stifled and held to just a single hit with a fifth inning double by Dana Percival as Trinity dropped game two by a 2-0 final.

• With Wednesday's split, the Trojans record all-time against Saint Ambrose sits at 5-9. 

• Trinity's game one win snapped their nine game losing streak.

• Alyssa Frey's seven strikeouts in game one, and Hailey Baker's four in game two give both pitchers 91 strikeouts on the season, tied for the second most in a single season in program history.

• Frey's seven strikeouts give her 118 in her collegiate career, passing Grace Magnuson (2017-18) for the fourth most in school history. Baker's four strikeouts bring her career total at TIU to 115 (fifth most in team history).

• Frey's win in game one was her fourth of the year, snapping a six-game losing streak as a pitcher.

• Frey's game one victory was her fourth game this season with seven or more strikeouts.

• Wednesday's game one win was Frey's third shutout win of the year. Frey previously shutout Ripon College (WI) and Viterbo (WI) earlier this season.

• Kristin Storer's game-winning RBI double in the third inning was her sixth double of the season, and 34th of her career.

• Gina Loy's double to set up the game-winning run in the opener was her fourth double of the year, and 12th of the season.

• Baker's pitching record on the season drops to 8-9, her sixth consecutive loss.

The Trojans (12-20) return to action on Friday, April 30 as they host the Lincoln College Lynx in the final home doubleheader of the season. TIU will honor their four senior athletes prior to first pitch scheduled for 3:00pm at the TIU Softball Field in Deerfield.
