Pitching shuts down Lynx in home finale

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU softball team wrapped up the home portion of their 2021 regular season on Friday afternoon as they hosted the Lincoln College Lynx in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader. Entering the final week of the season, the Trojans looked to build off a series split at Saint Ambrose from Wednesday and build momentum down the stretch.

The blue and white started Alyssa Frey in the pitcher's circle in game one looked to post back-to-back wins. The right-hander brought the heat with an impressive 10 strikeouts in a complete game shutout with just one walk. Offensively, Trinity struck early and played solid defense throughout, kicking things off with an RBI double to right field by Britney Knox to score Kristin Storer in the bottom of the first.

Dana Percival followed up the TIU left fielder by notching two of her three RBI's on the day on a single to center, scoring Knox and Lauren Neveau to give the Trojans a 4-0 lead after just one inning. Percival would drive in Trinity's only other run one inning later in the second on a sacrifice fly to left field to bring home Neveau as part of the 5-0 win.

In game two, senior Hailey Baker took to the pitcher's circle and put on a show in the final home game of her career with eight punchouts in six innings of work. Storer got things going early by leading off the bottom of the first inning with a leadoff home run to left field for an early lead. Brooke Heraty would drive in Knox a few batters later for a 2-0 Trojan lead. Two innings later, Heraty drove in a pair of runs in Percival and Storer, with Heather Anderson singling to right field to bring in Heraty for a 5-0 TIU lead.

Heraty would reach base safely on a fielder's choice in the fifth to score Neveau, while Neveau would double to center to score Madison Lenzke in the sixth for a 7-0 lead. Freshman Meghan Ramseyer would cap the day off with an RBI single to score Storer to allow TIU to claim victory in six innings by an 8-0 final score.
