ROSEMONT, Ill. --- The TIU softball team hit the road on Friday afternoon as they took on the Lakers of Roosevelt University at Parkway Bank Field for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader. After starting their conference schedule 2-1 through their first three games, the Trojans looked to continue to build against a quality league opponent.
Trinity would start Hailey Baker on the mound in game one, looking to bounce back after having her five game winning streak snapped by Olivet Nazarene on Wednesday. While not striking out many Laker batters, Baker pitched a solid game allowing just one walk and inducing a number of ground balls and flyouts. In an opening game pitching duel, neither team could find much offense until Lauren Neveau led off the top of the sixth inning with a single to center field.Â
After Britney Knox reached base on an error by Roosevelt pitcher Kate Sisson, Alyssa Frey drove in TIU's only two runs of the game with a triple to right field. The Lakers would score one run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Trojans were able to work their way defensively out of a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the seventh to secure a 2-1 win.
Frey would start game two, but struggled with her command, walking five batters and allowing four runs of five hits. The first three innings of action would remain scoreless until Dana Percival launched a two-run home run to center field for a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Roosevelt however would cut the lead in half in the fifth, and score three runs in the sixth en route to a 4-2 win over the Trojans.
