Trojans drop heartbreaker to TCC in double overtime

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU women's soccer team returned home on Saturday afternoon as they hosted the 23rd ranked Trolls of Trinity Christian College in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a tough 1-0 loss at Judson on Tuesday, the Trojans looked to bounce back from their second loss of the season with a much needed victory over a nationally ranked opponent.

Both teams would battle for 35 scoreless minutes before Brianna Uhl put the Trolls ahead 1-0 on an unassisted goal. TIU would respond quickly as they have done several times this season with an early score in the second half as Abigail Olsson tied the match in the 46th minute.

Ten minutes after Olsson's goal, the Trolls would retake the lead as Demi Scibetta scored with a shot past TIU goalkeeper Sarah Davis for the 2-1 lead in the 56th minute. The Trojans would not trail for long however as just four minutes later, Olsson would find freshman midfielder Kate Jung for the equalizer in the 60th minute past TCC keeper Gillian Alberto. With no deciding goal in the remaining 30 minutes of regulation, the match would ultimately to a second overtime period, where the Trolls, in the 105th minute of play, Scibetta netted the game-winning goal to give Trinity Christian the 3-2 win, and hand TIU their first set of consecutive losses this season.
