BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- The TIU women's soccer team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon as they hosted the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) action. Coming off a difficult 2-1 loss to #23 Trinity Chrisitan last Saturday in double overtime, the Trojans knew they would face a rough test against a CSU team that entered the day receiving votes in the NAIA top 25 poll.
Out of the gate, the Trinity offense put immediate pressure on the Wolves defense, including goalkeeper Marina Johnstone. The Trojans were unable to score in the first half, but broke through in the second as Lauren Corral scored unassisted in front of the CSU box for the first score of the game in the 77th minute.Â
Cardinal Stritch would not stay down for long however as the Wolves scored just 72 second later on a Mari Sagstad goal past TIU keeper Sarah Davis. Four minutes later, Itzair Garcia would net another unassisted goal for the Wolves in the 61st minute. While the Trojans provided one final push in the closing minutes, they would be unable to find the back of the to tie the game, falling by a score of 2-1.Â
