Olsson ties game with late free kick goal to draw the Saints 1-1

BANNOCKBURN, Ill.— Saturday afternoon the Trojans were back on their home pitch again for another CCAC opponent, this time the Saints of Holy Cross College. A hard fought battle through and through, was bookend with goals in the initial ten minutes and again in the final three.

Trinity started with momentum, earning a corner kick in the first minute of play, followed by back to back shots on the Saints keeper to give her an early test. Unfortunately, Trojan offense sputtered out after the initial minutes, with Holy Cross taking all the offensive opportunities starting with a goal in the 10th minute. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Davis held firm the remaining 35 minutes behind her defensive line that repeatedly blocked shots or forced them widely off frame. Trinity would log just two shots in the opening half while keeping a clean sheet in the official's book despite rising tensions.

Start of the second half, possession hopped the center line as both teams wrestled to create momentum. The Trojan defensive unit continued to hold strong, pulling the Saints offside and largely shielding Davis from dangerous attempts. TIU looked to have a breakthrough in the 76th minute but hit their stride a step too soon and was called for the offside. With the clock waning, tensions continued to build until the Saints were called for a hand ball in the 89th minute. Placing the ball about 25 yards from goal, veteran forward Abigail Olsson lined up to strike on goal before burying the shot in the upper ninety over the keepers' hands to tie the game. With a final corner kick, the Saints pushed for the winning goal but once again the Trojan defenders stood their ground to the whistle, securing the draw.

The Trojans (3-10-2) have three games remaining in the regular season as they hit the road on Tuesday for a CCAC match-up with the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph before returning home on Saturday for senior day.
