Trojans come home with 6-0 victory on the road

WHITING, IN — Last night the Trojans traveled to Indiana for their latest CCAC battle against the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph. A trio of goals in each half resulted in TIU walking away with a 6-0 victory.

In the last outing for the Trojans, senior Abigail Olsson buried the tying goal with less than two minutes remaining and she picked up right where she left off again last night, scoring in the ninth minute. Veteran defender Kinsey Gomez won a goal kick by the Crimson Wave before finding junior Payton Siragusa in the middle of the pitch. A quick turn and through ball to Olsson beat Calumet's backline and put the Trojans on the scoreboard. Similar to the first goal, TIU followed up with their second roughly one minute later. An offside call gave the Crimson Wave a free kick which was once again received by the Trojan defense, this time by senior Micah Wassink who headed it back into the middle for Emily Soriaga to settle.Passing through the Crimson Wave's defensive unit once again with Siragusa running through to receive then deliver just past the keeper.

The Trojans would secure their third goal of the game just another minute later, starting once again from a pass from Trinity's defense as Gomez played a ball over top, flicked on by sophomore Sydney Matthews to the feet of Soriaga making the run through. Composed and confident, Soriaga slipped the ball far post and past the Calumet goalkeeper. Despite the Crimson Wave adjusting tactics to employ a higher line to pull the Trojans offside five times, the Trojans maintained possession and were able to fire off an additional five shots before the halftime break.

From the starting whistle of the second half, Trinity's offensive pressure continued with an early offside call before adjusting their strategy to knock off three more shots in a span of four minutes. TIU found the twine again in the 63rd minute when Olsson took it from midfield past the goal line, dribbling past two defenders then chipping the goalkeeper. Ten minutes later, Siragusa earned her first brace of the season, taking on a pair of Calumet defenders then blasting it past the keeper from the right side of the penalty box. With 16 minutes remaining, forward-turned-defender Elizabeth Bayert scored her second goal of the season. Grabbing possession near half field, Bayert found Olsson in the middle and continued a hard sprint forward and through the opposing backline while connecting with the return pass from Olsson before slotting it by the Calumet keeper.

The Trojan defensive unit remained largely untested in the match, facing just two shots throughout the game but saw considerable activity on the offensive side of the field. Senior keeper Sarah Davis was called upon for the save just once in ninety minutes of play as the Trojans rained 23 shots, 14 on goal towards the Calumet goal mouth.

For their final home game of the season, the Trojans are back at home on Saturday afternoon to take on Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose University. Kick off is slated for 12:00pm with a special ceremony to honor their graduating seniors to take place just before the whistle
