Trojans drop final regular season game at Governors State

CROWN POINT, Ind. ---  For their final regular season game of the season the Trojans took to the road to face the Jaguars of Governors State University. In a battle under the lights where both teams could see their breath from the cold, Trinity fell 1-3 to the Jaguars.

From the outset, the Trojans looked to have their hands full for the night as the Jaguars raced down the field with speed Trinity struggled to match. Quick footwork and intelligent defensive positioning would be key for Trinity as they stamped out Governors State's attack throughout the evening. A battle of pace and possession, TIU seemed to read passes well and intercept with a quick counter for their best attacking opportunities of which they had seven in the opening 45 minutes.. With just seven minutes left in the first stanza, the Jaguars punched through the Trojans defensive unit to put a tally on the board.

Not long into the second half the Jaguars increased their lead after an unfortunate foul call within the penalty box and converted the spot kick to put the Trojans behind 0-2 with 38 minutes remaining. Another quick attack from Governors State just five minutes later resulted in their third goal as tensions on the field began to rise. Trinity struggled to maintain possession and sustain an attacking presence in the Jaguars half, instead fielding an array of shots sprayed high and wide if unable to be blocked, something the Trojan defensive unit has excelled in this season. With six minutes remaining, junior Joel Kirakos put one on the scoreboard for the Trojans after a foul was called on Governors State. Unfortunately, the Trojans would fail to convert anything further.

For the first time since 2016 the Trojans have qualified for the post season and will enter the CCAC playoffs as the seventh seed of the tournament. They will face the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch University next Friday November 4. Kick off is to be determined.
