Trinity falls to Roosevelt in Homecoming duel

BANNOCKBURN, IL — On Saturday afternoon the women's soccer team kicked off the Homecoming festivities with a CCAC match-up against the Lakers of Roosevelt University. Despite a solid defensive effort in the first half of play, the Trojans fell 1-2.

An early test on the Trojans defense, Roosevelt barrelled down the field with three shots on goal in the opening five minutes. Senior goalkeeper Sarah Davis came through with the saves to fend off the quick onslaught. Locked in throughout the remainder of the half, Trinity's defense would afford the Lakers just five additional shots off frame and pull Roosevelt offside four times.

After an even scoreline in the first half, the game began to open up in the second half as the Lakers broke through in the 52nd minute of competition following a converted free kick. Unable to recover from the goal quickly, the Lakers buried their second goal less than two minutes later to take a 0-2 lead.

Utility player Morgan Busick cut the lead in half in the 64th minute with a lofted shot from roughly 25 yards to give the Trojans a breath of life. In the following five minutes, the Trojans launched three more shots towards the Lakers goalkeeper hoping to secure the equalizer. Fizzling out shortly after that, Trinity was forced to play on the defensive for the majority of the remaining minutes as the Lakers continued their offensive pressure and possession of the ball. At the final whistle, the 1-2 scoreline held firm as the Trojans dropped the CCAC contest.

Senior Sarah Davis took all 90 minutes in goal, adding 12 saves to her resume for the year while junior Morgan Busick scored her fourth of the season to tie with freshman Sarah Krick in leading the Trojans in goal scoring. Busick also leads the teams in points with 11 on the season.

TIU (2-8-1) is back at home again tomorrow for another Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference game against the Titans of Indiana University at South Bend. Kickoff is slated for 3:00pm.
