Trojans drop to Wolves at home on Monday night

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- Last night the Trojans tipped off against the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch on their home court for their latest CCAC battle. Unfortunately, TIU struggled in the second quarter particularly and were unable to recover, dropping the game 51-67.

From the tip, the Trojans grabbed possession and took it to the net with a jumper by reigning NCCAA Player of the Week, Da'Naria Washington. The quarter remained balanced in score and possession until the final three minutes when the Trojans took off on a seven point run. Initiated by junior transfer, Kaiya Albert with a jumper, then followed by Saskia Stegbauer with a three pointer and capped by Washington with another jumper. Entering the second quarter, the Trojans led 18-11.

The Wolves opened scoring in the second, but Audree Peck answered shortly after with the first trey of the quarter. Through the middle of the stanza, both sides traded buckets before Cardinal Stritch ran out the quarter with an 11-point run.

After a slow start in the third quarter, the Trojans answered with a three-pointer from sophomore Ashley Giesler as they started a nine point stretch with layups from Washington and Jakyah Amous. The final three minutes of the segment saw a close scoreline as the Trojans climbed back, ending the quarter behind by four points, 37-41 following a layup by Peck.

Trying to make that final push, the Trojans came within five points of the Wolves throughout the remaining quarter but failed to close the final gap. Six Trojans got on the scoreboard in the fourth, yet the overall struggle to control the boards gave them minimal second chances.

Washington led scoring for the Trojans once again with 14 points while Audree Peck controlled the boards with ten rebounds throughout the game. Stegbauer shot perfectly, going 4-4 from the field and 1-1 from the perimeter while also grabbing seven rebounds.

The Trojans are on the road for the holiday weekend as they travel to Tennessee to participate in the NAIA's "The Show" Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Tip off is set for 4:15pm on Friday and 6:00pm on Saturday evening.
