Trojans fall to Tigers at home

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. --- Last night the Trojans squared off against the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University as they resumed CCAC play after participating in "The Show" last weekend. Despite a dynamite first half, the Trojans fell behind in the second stanza and failed to recover, dropping the game 74-90.

A picture of what the first half would look like, TIU took off to a fast start as junior guard Jack Kahoun dropped a layup and three-pointer in the opening minute of play. Kahoun would go on to score another five points, with three Trojans following close behind with eight points a piece. Despite the Trojan offense firing on all cylinders, the Tigers managed to keep the game close, tying the score at three separate junctures in the opening stanza. Diamond Presniakovas led the charge beneath the boards with five rebounds, aiding Trinity in nine points from second chance opportunities and 18 from the paint. At the end of twenty minutes, the Trojans took a seven point lead into half time, 47-42.

Battling for the lead, both teams traded baskets in the opening five minutes before a three-pointer from Olivet gave them a one-point lead. A free throw from Presniakovas then Kahoun set the equalizer and retook the lead. With 14 minutes remaining, the Tigers took over the scoreboard and unfortunately for the Trojans, never looked back. Consecutive layups by Presniakovas with five  minutes remaining felt momentum shift as the Trojans cut the deficit to single digits, but Olivet stifled any further hopes with back to back field goals of their own before a 16-point run to close the game.

Kahoun led the proceedings for the evening with a season-high 17 points, eight rebounds, and four assistss while Presniakovas produced nearly the same (15 points, eight rebounds). As a whole, the Trojans grabbed 32 points in the paint and converted the most points from turnovers, landing 17 to Olivet's 14. Trinity also doubled their opponent in second chance points, 16-7.

The Trojans(5-5) have a lengthy break to regroup before they resume conference play again after their previously scheduled game at Saint Ambrose slated for this weekend has been postponed. Catch TIU in action again Saturday, December 17th as they travel to Gary, Indiana to face the Redhawks of Indiana University Northwest.
