Breakaway second quarter leads Trojans to victory over Sabercats

BANNOCKBURN, ILL. ---  Last night the Trojans were back on the court again for a non-conference matchup against the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University.

Alina Jahnke and Carly Scheblo combined for four layups to give the Trojans the lead 8- before a 3-pointer by Maranatha started a run for the Sabercats. Daniela Lopez broke it up with a layup in the final minute and the quarter ended with the Sabercats holding a one point lead.

Trinity came out of the quarter break with an increased intensity on offense that produced a 16-0 run throughout the initial seven minutes of play. Amber Reynolds and Alina Jahnke both sank 3-pointers within that span. The Sabercats earned a layup to break the run and Ashley Geisler answered, dropping one of her own to take the Trojans into halftime with a score of 30-15.

In the third quarter the Sabercats stepped up their offense from beyond the perimeter as they sank three 3-pointers ,but it wasn't enough to catch the Trojans as they nearly doubled the points Maranatha earned. Six different Trojans contributed another 18 points in the third, bringing their total lead to 23 points.

The Trojans kept up their offense, shooting 50% from the floor and nearly 43% from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter. Despite a strong push from the Sabercat offense, the Trojans had put in the work early enough to secure the lead and Marantha couldn't close the gap. Trinity defeated the Sabercats 62-38.
