BANNOCKBURN, ILL. --- The Trojans took their home court one final time for the season tonight to honor three of their graduating seniors:
Taylor Hibicke,
Alina Jahnke, and
Louisa Schmidt. Tipping off against CCAC opponent, the Crimson Wave of Calumet College, Trinity sprung to an early lead and never looked back from there, defeating Calumet 89-50.
Opening the first quarter with a 12-4 run, the Trojans quickly jumped ahead with 3-pointers from Daniela Lopez and Alina Jahnke. The Wave answered with six consecutive points before a layup by Lopez brought the score to 17-15. Jahnke closed the quarter for the Trojans with the final four points of the quarter to give Trinity a seven point lead at the first break.
In the first three minutes of the second quarter the Trojans turned it up again with a 12-2 run, within it a 3-pointer by Louisa Schmidt on her way to her first career double-double. Calumet broke the run with a layup, but Trinity quickly countered with back to back 3-pointers by Carly Scheblo and Amber Reynolds to make the score 39-18 with five minutes remaining in the half. The Wave continued to fight back, but the Trojans wouldn't be stopped as they shot 50% from the floor and over 70% from the perimeter.
After the half, Trinity continued to build on their lead, outscoring the Wave 27-11 in the third quarter while still shooting over 60%. In the initial five minutes, the Trojans went on a 15-6 run and increased their lead to 60-28. Beneath the boards, Taylor HIbicke led the team as she reigned in six of the Trojan's 13 rebounds as she worked her way towards her first career triple-double.
With the clock winding down, the Crimson Wave increased their defensive pressure and forced more turnovers than they gave, trying to capitalize on their end of the court, but to no avail. Taylor Hibicke led the team with another six points, while Daniela Lopez added five. The final buzzer rang with the Trojans led to victory by their three seniors.
