BANNOCKBURN, ILL. --- Trinity stepped into Van Dixhorn Arena tonight for their final home game of the season as they honored two graduating seniors,
Sterling Brown and
Leon Williams. Tipping off against the Crimson Wave of Calumet College of St. Joseph in another CCAC matchup, the Trojans gave an exciting fast-paced performance as they defeated the Wave, 74-58.
The opening half started with a slow roll until Jack Kahoun dropped the first bucket of the night with a 3-pointer after two minutes of play. In the next three minutes the Trojans got the crowd going with a dunk by Leon Williams sandwiched between two 3-pointers by Brandon McQueen and another by Jack Kahoun. With an eight point deficit, the Crimson Wave started to push back offensively and went on a 7-3 run.
With nine minutes remaining, Trinity had the lead 21-15 when Brandon McQueen dropped another 3-pointer starting the Trojans on a 12-4 run. As the clock wound down, the Wave tried to gain momentum into the second half with a couple of 3-pointers within an 8-3 run. Into the break, the Trojans led by 11 points by a score of 38-27.
Out of the break, the Wave continued to battle back with flair and cut the deficit to seven points after a dunk brought the score to 45-38. A few minutes later, a steal by Kyonte Thomas led to another dunk by Leon Williams and the Trojans increased their lead again. Over the next couple of minutes, both teams traded baskets until Kyonte Thomas nailed a 3-pointer from well beyond the arc to beat the buzzer and wind up the crowd again.
In the final eight minutes Calumet moved for a comeback, cutting the Trojans lead to the lowest it had been all game at 63-58 but it wouldn't be enough. As the final buzzer loomed, the Wave began stalling the clock with fouls but unfortunately their target, Brandon McQeen shot 5-6 on the night. A layup by Jack Kahoun with thirty seconds left would be the final bucket as the Trojans walked away victorious.
