ELGIN, ILL. --- The Trojans had a quick turnaround after their victory on Saturday as they hit the road again, this time to meet the Eagles of Judson University. Trinity was able to jump on an early lead and maintain their defensive pressure to hold onto their third consecutive victory over their CCAC opponent, 54-49.
Despite losing the tip, the Trojans started strong with a quick steal by Taylor Hibicke before a 3-pointer by Carly Scheblo to get the Trojans on the board. Fouled while making a layup, Scheblo converted the free throw and gave the Trojans a 10-5 lead with seven minutes remaining. The Eagles pushed back and kept the score close as Trinity continued their offensive, ending the first quarter with the Trojans leading 18-13.
To start the second quarter, the Trojans went on a 7-2 run. With four minutes left in the quarter, the Eagles closed the gap to two points. Pulling ahead again, Taylor Hibicke sank six unanswered points before a final layup by Judson to enter half time with the Trojans still in the lead at 32-26.
In the third quarter, Trinity slowed down their offense while increasing their defensive efforts and forcing four turnovers and 2 steals. Beneath the boards, they also recovered more rebounds which led to their scoring more second chance points and points in the paint than Judson at the final whistle.
Taylor Hibicke opened the final quarter with a layup assisted by Alina Jahnke for the double-digit deficit and from there, Judson increased their offensive pressure with a 7-2 run. Though still in the lead, Trinity struggled to add to their score as Judson brought the score within four points with three minutes left on the clock. As the Eagles began fouling to stall the clock, Trinity gradually increased their score by adding free throws and won the game.
