TIU drops weekend series in Indiana

GRANGER, Ind.. --- Last weekend the Trojans faced the Titans of Indiana University at South Bend in a three game series. Friday and Sunday the Trojans traveled to Granger after inclement weather moved the original Saturday home-opener back to Indiana again. The Trojans returned home 1-2 on the weekend, dropping the first and last game of the series with an exciting win in game one of Sunday's doubleheader.

Game One:
TIU opened with an early lead, going up 2-0 in the top of the first after doubles by Jose Matos and Seth Lewallen. The Trojans added two more in the second inning after three hits and a Titan error. In the bottom of the second, Trinity began to struggle defensively as the Titans started rolling the hits and scored seven runs. Capitalizing on pitching mistakes, the Trojans scored another run in the top of the fourth inning to bring the score to 5-7, IU South Bend leading.

The Titans continued their offensive showing, adding another four runs in the fourth inning, then six more in the fifth, taking the Trojans deficit to 11 runs with a score of 5-17. In the top of the sixth, the Trojans were at the top of the lineup again with Blake Lazaris who homered to right center field and earned another run for Trinity. IU South Bend scored one more in the bottom of the sixth before the game ended, 6-18.

Game Two:
The Trojans started off slow on Sunday afternoon with nine at bats entering the bottom of the fourth inning. The Titans led 3-0 before Luis Henriquez doubled to get on base then made his way across the plate following a Titan error. Seth Lewallen added another to the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 3-2.

At the top of the seventh, it was three up and three down as the Trojan defense caught a fly ball then made two outs at first. A predetermined seven inning game, the Trojans had the last at bat as Ridley Edington took the plate and was hit by the pitch to advance. A single by Seth Lewallen, another hit by pitch for Juan Valle and another single from Andrew Johnson brought Edington back to the dugout and tied the game 3-3. With bases loaded, a wild pitch by the Titans brought Lewallan across home base and secured victory for the Trojans, 3-4.

Game Three:
With Jacob Ferguson on the mound, the Trojan defense started strong after a line out and two fly ball catches to start the first inning but unable to continue the offensive momentum from the previous game, the Trojans were back on the field again after four batters.  Top of the second, the Titans rallied to score six runs after two errors.  Trinity tried to get their offense going but couldn't get any traction as the Titans stood strong on defense.

IU South Bend added two more runs in the fifth and the score stood at 0-9 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. Jose Matos led off with a double and then advanced on a passed ball before a single by Andrew Johnson brought him across home plate. After three more innings of scoreless baseball, the game ended in a Trojan loss by a score of 1-9.
