Trojans drop opening games of the Spring Games tournament

KISSIMMEE, Fla. --- Today was the start of the Trojans 2022 campaign as they opened the season with two games at the NAIA Spring Games. Over the course of the next week, the Trojans will compete in 11 games before heading back to Chicago to begin their conference season. Across the plate today, the Trojans saw the Bobcats of St. Thomas University (Fla.) and the Wolverines of the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Game One (St. Thomas University):
Trinity fell behind early in their opening game as the Bobcats scored on a home run with two runners on base, ending the first inning with the Trojans trailing 4-0. A single by Madison Lenzke tried to gain momentum in the second but fell short.

The Trojans looked for a quick third out after a fielder's choice made the second out at home, but the Bobcats rallied with a double that sent two runners home. Before the end of the inning, St. Thomas scored two more and ended the game after the fifth inning by a score of 10-0.

Game Two (University of Michigan-Dearborn):
Looking to bounce back from the morning game, the Trojans came out strong on defense with Morgan Paaske at the mound, allowing only three hits throughout the first four innings. The Wolverines scored one in the top of the second before Trinity opened up in the third with three runs. A ground ball by Morgan Paaske and Wolverine error brought Hailey Kuriger and Brittney Knox back to the dugout followed by a pop fly to center field that Paige Hintz capitalized on to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead at the end of the third inning.

In the top of the fifth, Michigan-Dearborn sent a homer over the fence and brought in two runs to tie the score 3-3. Entering the sixth inning, the Wolverines began finding holes in the Trojan defense and rallied to take the lead by eight runs. The game ended after the sixth inning, Michigan-Dearborn defeating the Trojans 11-3.
