Trinity splits doubleheader against Judson

WHEELING, Ill. --- In a relocated game due to field conditions, Trinity hosted Judson University at Heritage Park earlier this afternoon in a CCAC doubleheader. Using the momentum from the previous game, the Trojans came out strong with a victory in the first game, but would fail to sweep the doubleheader.
 
Game One: TIU 7, Judson 5
At the end of the first inning, Trinity took a 2-1 lead when Paige Hintz nabbed her first triple of the season to earn the first run. Brooke Heraty followed with a single to send Hintz home. On the field, the Trojans held the Tigers to three batters before turning up the heat in the bottom of the second with six hits and five runs. Singles from Josie Nelson, Hailey Kuriger, Britney Knox, and Paige Hintz set the stage for Gina Loy's first triple of the year to earn 3 RBI's. Heraty hit a double to bring in Loy and the Trojans ended the inning with a 7-1 lead.

After the Eagles scored one in the fourth inning, Trinity had a 7-2 lead entering the sixth. Judson rallied behind the plate to bring home three runs on four hits and cut the lead to 7-5. Unable to increase their lead in the sixth, the Trojans held strong on defense with a couple of ground outs before a caught fly ball sealed the victory.
 
Game Two: TIU 2, Judson 5
Judson opened the scoring with a run in the first inning, immediately followed by two from the Trojans. Hailey Kuriger led off with a single, followed by Britney Knox. A sacrifice fly by Paige Hintz brought Kuriger across the plate before Gina Loy added her second triple of the day, bringing Knox back to the dugout and taking the lead 2-1.

After three innings of scoreless play, the Eagles broke the drought with three runs in the top of the fifth inning to retake the lead, 2-4. They would add one more in the sixth inning as Trinity got in a rut with just two hits in their final three at bats.
 
Up Next:
The Trojans (2-13, 2-8) host the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch tomorrow afternoon in their next CCAC doubleheader before a break over the weekend. Opening pitch is at 12:00pm and can be live-streamed on the Trojan Sports Network.
