WHEELING, Ill. --- Yesterday afternoon the Trojans hosted another CCAC opponent in a rescheduled matchup  as the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch traveled for a doubleheader. In both games, Trinity fell behind early and couldn't recover.
 
Game One: TIU 3, Cardinal Stritch 8
Cardinal Strich started the game with three runs in their first at bat while holding the Trojans to just three batters. In the second inning, Trinity put themselves in a great scoring position with bases loaded after singles by Gina Loy and Brooke Heraty. Madison Lenzke gave a well put sacrifice bunt to advance the runners and Josie Nelson reached first on an error. Unfortunately, the Trojans struggled at the plate and left the three on base.

The score held until the top of the fourth when the Wolves rallied for three more runs before Heraty made an impressive diving catch on a foul ball behind the plate to get the Trojans out of the inning. After a few pitching mistakes, the Trojans had two on base when Hailey Kuriger stepped up to the plate and blasted a triple to the outfield, earning two RBIs. Britney Knox followed with a double to left field and brought Kuriger home to cut the score in half, 3-6.

Both teams had just three batters in the fifth inning as defense tightened up.

At the top of the sixth inning, Cardinal Stritch tripled to score one more run. Trinity struggled at the plate against the Wolves pitcher as she threw a complete game.

The Wolves would score one more in the top of the seventh to increase their lead to 8-1 and ultimately win the game.
 
Game Two: TIU 0, Cardinal Stritch 12
Starting off the second game in a similar fashion, the Wolves took an early six run lead after two innings. Lead batter Hailey Kuriger tried to start the offense with a single in the bottom of the first then a stolen base to put herself in scoring position, but Trinity began to struggle against Cardinal Stritch's senior hurler as she held them to minimal at bats.

After five innings, the Wolves defeated the Trojans 0-12.

The Trojans (2-15, 2-10) have the weekend off and will travel next week to Lincoln College for a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, April 20, 2022.
