WHEELING, Ill. --- Over the holiday weekend, the Trojans completed a three game series against Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent, Saint Xavier University. After winning the single game Friday afternoon, the Trojans traveled to Chicago and were unable to take the series, dropping both games on Saturday to the Cougars.

Game One: TIU 6, Saint Xavier 4
The Trojans made the double play followed by a line out to start the first inning strong on defense before notching an RBI groundout in the second half of the inning.
Saint Xavier matched the score in the second before holding Trinity to three batters.
Returning the favor, TIU made it three up and three down for the Cougars in the top of the third. After taking the plate, the Trojans nabbed two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead, 3-1. Blake Lazaris hit an RBI triple before a single by Samuel Edington sent him home.
Trinity rallied again in the bottom of the fourth with three hits and three more runs. Jackson Schutzenhofer, Blake Lazaris, and Andrew Johnson contributed singles with Lazaris and Johnson earning RBIs.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the Cougars turned up their offense to score two runs off of a couple of singles.
The Cougars grabbed another run in the top of the seventh to bring the score within two runs, Trojans leading 6-4.
The final two innings would remain scoreless as Max Amendt played a complete game for the Trojans and earned his second win of the season.

Game Two: TIU 1, Saint Xavier 9
Bouncing back from the previous day's loss, the Cougars opened the first inning with five runs on four hits to take the early lead.
In the next inning, the Trojans continued to struggle at bat while Saint Xavier added another run to their score.
Trinity grabbed back one run in the top of the fourth after a double by Seth Lewallen sent pinch runner Cordell Weston back to the dugout. The Cougars scored another in the bottom of the fourth after a Trojans fielding error.
Both teams held strong defensively in the fifth inning, not allowing any runs again until the bottom of the sixth when the Cougars turned it up again and scored two more.Â
In their last turn at the plate, Trinity tried to create offense early after lead off batters Ridley Edington and Jackson Schutzenhofer both singled, followed by Brady Popovich earning a walk. The Trojans would fail to capitalize on a bases loaded situation and drop the game 1-9
Game Three: TIU 9, Saint Xavier 12
A promising start, TIU lead off batter Luis Henriquez took his base after being hit by the pitch and Blake Lazaris followed with a single to get two runners on base. Unfortunately, the Cougars caught up with a double play and the Trojans exited the inning scoreless while Saint Xavier secured two runs.
Trinity would go scoreless again in the top of the second. The Cougars took the plate and notched four hits to add four more runs to their score, taking the lead 6-0.
After two singles got Brady Popovich and Luis Henriquez on base at the top of the third, Blake Lazaris was thrown out on a dropped third strike but gave opportunity for Popovich to score the Trojans first run.
The Trojans held Saint Xavier scoreless in the bottom of the third and added two more to their total their next at bat. Ridley Edington singled up the middle for 2 RBIs. Shortly after, Brady Popovich gave up a sacrifice fly to score another run.
Rallying at the plate, the Cougars scored five runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Trying to match the Cougars rally, the Trojans nabbed two hits and two more runs in the top of the fifth. Ethan Oskroba doubled to right center earning an RBI followed immediately by Seth Lewallen with a single to the other side to earn another RBI.
Saint Xavier began to struggle on the mound and TIU capitalized on pitching mistakes and a fielding error to collect one run in the top of the sixth and another in the seventh.
Both teams went scoreless in the eighth inning before Trinity added the final run of the game at the top of the ninth. With bases loaded, Seth Lewallen sent a single through the right side of the field for an RBI and the Trojans failed to convert any further.

The Trojan's (13-24, 4-17) travel to Judson University on Thursday afternoon for a rescheduled CCAC matchup. Opening pitch is at 3:00pm.
