Trinity falls to IUSB in conference doubleheader

WHEELING, Ill. --- In their first home games of the season, the Trojans hosted the Titans of Indiana University South Bend at Heritage Park. Trinity started strong in the first game before ultimately falling to IU in the doubleheader.

Game One:
With three hits at their first trip to the plate, the Trojans notched two singles and a double. Brooke Heraty earned two RBI's on the latter to give Trinity a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Responding with a sacrifice fly, the Titans cut the lead in half to score in the second. The score remained until the bottom of the fourth when Morgann Passke stepped to the plate and sailed a triple into the outfield, scoring two more for the Trojans. Immediately after her, Josie Nelson hit a sacrifice fly and brought Paaske back to the dugout and gave the Trojans a 5-1 lead.

The Titans answered quickly as they rallied in the top of the fifth to score six runs and take the lead 5-7. Trinity began to struggle at the plate and went two innings without scoring, while IU South Bend continued to add to their total each inning. Entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the Trojans were behind 5-11 and needed a rally to push for extra innings. Josie Nelson hit a double to drive Morgan Paaske home, but the Trojans couldn't generate any further offense and lost 6-11.

Game Two:
After a scoreless first inning, the Titans rallied for four hits to score three runs in the second. Brooke Heraty led off the Trojans with a single to center field before Josie Nelson grounded into a double play. The third inning saw just six batters after textbook defense by both sides.

At the top of the fifth inning, the Titans hit their stride again with five hits and five runs to increase their lead to 0-8 over the Trojans. Trinity had one last chance at bat to extend the game through the mercy rule, but unfortunately couldn't start the rally needed to keep playing and lost the game in five innings.
