Trinity defeated by St. Francis on the road

JOLIET, Ill. --- After their Saturday doubleheader at home was postponed, the Trojans hit the road yesterday to face another conference opponent, the Fighting Saints of the University of St. Francis (IL). Trinity struggled to generate a consistent presence on offense and the Saints were able to rally in multiple innings to sweep the doubleheader, 5-11 and 0-10.

Game One:
The Fighting Saints put one on the scoreboard in the first inning before rallying together in the third inning for five more. Responding quickly, the Trojans landed five hits to score four runs in r the third inning. Madison Lenzke started things off for Trinity as she singled, followed by Waverly Miller and Hailey Kuriger. Kuriger's hit brought Lenzke home before Paige Hintz took the plate and doubled to right center bringing Miller and Kuriger back to the dugout as well. Brooke Heraty grounded out but secured the RBI to give the Trojans their fourth run of the game.

Immediately connecting on their next at bat, the Saints earned two base hits before a home run sent all three runners home and increased their lead 4-9 at the top of the fourth inning. Back to back innings of three up and three down for the Trojans hurt their offensive momentum and St. Francis capitalized to score two more. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Trinity trailed 4-11 looking for another rally after Josie Nelson doubled to right center and scored a run. Unfortunately, the Trojans wouldn't be able to build anything further and the game ended with a Trojan loss, 5-11.

Game Two:
Starting off slow, the first three innings of the game saw little excitement as both teams made the routine plays. In the top of the fourth inning, St. Francis opened up the game with a five run lead after nabbing five hits and taking advantage of Trojan mistakes. In the next inning, the Saints added another five runs to increase their lead to 0-10.

Trinity had one last chance to put something on the board to counteract the mercy rule. Despite landing a couple of base hits, the Trojans struggled to convert and left two on base as the game ended.
