Trojans drop weekend doubleheader against Fighting Bees

DAVENPORT, Iowa --- Over the weekend the Trojans traveled to Iowa for a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup against the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose. Trinity kept a close score in the first game but failed to carry any offensive momentum to game two and dropped both games to the Fighting Bees.

Game One: TIU 4, Saint Ambrose 5
Saint Ambrose nabbed one run in the bottom of the first after consecutive stolen bases, while keeping TIU scoreless in the first three innings.

In the bottom of the third, the Fighting Bees added two more runs to the scoreboard.

Trinity connected at the plate in the fourth inning after a double down the right side by Max Amendt secured one RBI. A sacrifice fly by Brady Popovich earned one more and closed the Bees lead, 2-3.

The score remained until the top of the sixth inning when the Trojans collected three hits and two additional runs to overtake the lead. A sacrifice bunt by Seth Lewallen advanced the runner and when Ridley Edington singled to left field he earned an RBI. Brady Popovich came up shortly after with a double to right center and brought R. Edington back home.

Countering, the Fighting Bees pushed on offense and scored two unearned runs to retake the lead, 4-5.

TIU went three up and three down in the final inning and fell just one run short to force extra innings.

Game Two: TIU 0, Saint Ambrose 11
The Fighting Bees started off hot with six runs in their first two at bats while holding the Trojans to a single hit.

After Brady Popovich was walked in the top of the third, the Trojans looked to capitalize but unfortunately grounded into a double play.

In the bottom of the fifth, Saint Ambrose scored two more runs, while continuing to hold Trinity scoreless.

Turning it up a notch, the Fighting Bees collected the final runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning and secured their victory, 0-11.
