TIU defeated by Crimson Wave in CCAC doubleheader

WHITING, Ind. --- Last Saturday the Trojans traveled to Calumet College of St. Joseph for their second CCAC doubleheader of the week. After a tough first game, the Trojans tried to bounce back for the second but despite keeping it close, the Trojans fell to the Crimson Wave.

Game One: TIU 3, CCSJ 11
Calumet started off the scoring in the bottom of the first inning, adding four runs to the scoreboard.

A scoreless second inning brought the Trojans back to the plate where they scored three runs on four hits, capitalizing on two Crimson Wave errors. Singles by Morgann Paaske and Meghan Ramseyer set the bases for Hailey Kuriger to earn the RBI. Shortly after, Gina Loy hit a single to bring Kuriger and Ramseyer across the plate.

At the bottom of the third, Trinity trailed 3-4 before the Crimson Wave rallied to add another four runs and increase their lead again.

The Trojans were held scoreless again in the top of the fourth inning by the Crimson Wave hurler who would throw a complete game. At bat again, Calumet scored three more runs to make the score 3-11.

Hailey Kuriger tried to get the Trojan offense started with a triple in the top of the fifth, but the team would fail to rally.

Game Two: TIU 4, CCSJ 6
The Crimson Wave opened on the scoreboard first with one run in the bottom of the first before the Trojans countered in the top of the second with two runs to overtake the lead. After being hit by a pitch, Paige Hintz advanced to first and then to third following a double to center field by Josie Nelson. Jacqueline Kamery earned an RBI for her at bat, followed by Waverly Miller after she sent a single to right field.

At the top of the third inning, Calumet scored two runs from back to back singles to retake the lead, 2-3.

Scoring an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, the Crimson Wave increased their lead, 2-4.

Trinity collected four hits in the top of the fifth inning, but only converted to one run. Hailey Kuriger, Britney Knox, Gina Loy, and Josie Nelson all nabbed singles to bring the game a run closer, Trojans still trailing 3-4.

Calumet scored another in the bottom of the fifth and after holding TIU to three batters, added another run in the bottom of the sixth.

With their last at bat, Trinity looked to rally after a double by Brooke Heraty and single by Paige Hintz, but unfortunately a couple of fly balls ended the game at the top of the seventh.
