Trinity lacks offensive power in doubleheader defeat by the Saints

JOLIET, Ill. --- For another CCAC matchup, the Trojans traveled to Joliet, Illinois yesterday afternoon to face the Fighting Saints of the University of St. Francis (IL) in a relocated game after weather and field conditions forced the move from Deerfield. Unfortunately, the Saints came out on top of the doubleheader, defeating the Trojans 3-15 and 2-20.

Game One: TIU 3, St. Francis 15
Trinity fell behind early, entering the bottom of the third inning with a nine run deficit to overcome. Max Amendt tried to get things started with a single to right field before Luis Henriquez grounded into a double play to close the inning. The Saints added three runs in the fourth inning, and another three in the sixth inning to increase their lead to 0-15.

A short rally in the bottom of the sixth earned the Trojans two runs after landing four hits. Singles from Jackson Schutzenhofer, Ridley Edington and Anthony Termini set the stage for a double by Ethan Oskroba to bring in two runs. The Trojans secured an additional run in the bottom of the seventh after capitalizing on pitching mistakes and an error by the Saints.

Game Two: TIU 2, St. Francis 20
St. Francis continued their offensive momentum into the second game as they opened the first inning with four runs to take another early lead over the Trojans. At the plate, Trinity struggled to answer as they went the first four innings with just one base hit. At the top of the fifth, the Saints led 0-13 before scoring two more. The Trojans took over at the plate and landed two hits to bring in a couple of runs and make the score 2-15.

Rallying on defense, Trinity kept the Saints to three batters in the top of the sixth with a caught pop up and two line outs. Top of the seventh, St. Francis scored five more runs and Trinity was unable to respond before the game ended.
