Trojans defeat Sabercats 8-0 in non-conference game

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. — Yesterday afternoon the Trojans took a break in conference play to host the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University, fellow members of the National Christian College Athletic Association. Eight goals later, TIU walked away with their second victory of the season.

Starting the game with a similar lineup as usual, the Trojans started strong and got on the scoreboard in the opening three minutes. Payton Siragusa scored her first goal of the season but not her last of the day. Trinity slowed down play and kept possession around the Sabercats and didn't score their next goal until about 25 minutes later. A beautiful pass by Sarah Krick to split the defenders ended up at the feet of Morgan Busick who tucked it nicely into the left side of the goal, giving the Trojans a 2-0 lead.

TIU would go on to score four more goals in the first half and add two more in the second half. Goal scorers included Payton Siragusa, notching her first career hat trick as well as Morgan Busick with her first multi-goal game as she put two in the back of the net. Emily Soriaga, Abigail Olsson and Sarah Krick each added one to the scoreboard to round out the Trojans 8-0 victory. Krick's goal was her fourth of the season in as many consecutive games.

At halftime, Trinity made just two subbing changes, giving sophomore Angel Burke her first opportunity in the goal for the year and placing sophomore Sydney Matthews in the middle of the pitch. Trinity had a total of 36 shots with 18 on goal while allowing the Sabercats just one look towards goal.

Any victory is a highlight to the season, but perhaps one of the best highlights took place outside the bounds of the game clock. Joining the Trojans as they walked out for the starting lineups were the Chicago Rush North under 11 girls teams. Coaches Morgan Helms and Isabelle Danner invited the girls to join the team for the game, walking out before the game and playing in a small scrimmage during halftime on the field. Throughout the game, the young girls also helped chase errant soccer balls as they surrounded the sidelines.
