MILWAUKEE, Wisc. --- The Trojans stayed red hot on Tuesday, cruising to their fifth consecutive victory and 10th in 11 matches by downing the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch in straight sets.
The Trojans set the tone right away, jumping out to an 11-4 advantage, which they'd parlay into a fairly comfortable 25-15 set victory. Reigning NCCAA Player of the Week Brianna Torres and Wisconsin native Nadia Wheeler each tallied three kills to lead a balanced attack for TIU, as the Trojans started off on the right foot in pursuit of their first conference win of 2022.
The Wolves rallied to protect their home court in the second set, coming out firing and building up a quick 5-1 advantage. However, the Trojans stayed the course, chipping away at the margin to reduce the deficit to just one less than midway through the set. The Trojans still lagged behind until surging ahead with three consecutive tallies to grab a 20-19 lead before Lana Vujosevic polished off the set with her second ace of the frame. Not only did Vujosevic bookend the set with aces on the first and final plays, she also was quite active throughout the stanza, leading the Trojans with six kills as they took a commanding 2-0 edge.
It seemed as if the heavy lifting was done for Trinity, especially after the Trojans went up 6-1 to begin the third set, but with their backs to the wall, the Wolves rallied to claim a 9-8 lead. However, the Trojans put the pedal to the floor to finish the night, ballooning a slim 14-13 advantage into a 25-14 set win by scoring eight straight points and 11 of the last 12. Veteran setter Anna Skrzypchak finished off her solid all-around effort with a service ace to seal the deal in an impressive 3-0 win for Trinity.
The Trojans continued to play tremendous volleyball, largely behind the contributions of Vujosevic, who notched 10 kills and 10 digs, pacing all players in both categories, and Skrzypchak, who tallied a season-high 5 kills while posting 27 of the Trojans' 29 assists, more than triple the count of any other player in the match.
Up Next:
Trinity (10-2) will look to extend their impressive winning streak to a season-high six games when they square off with Governors State in a home clash at Van Dixhorn Arena.
