Trojans drop to the Eagles in CCAC showdown

BANNOCKBURN, Ill. — Saturday afternoon Trinity was back at home after back to back road contests as the Eagles of Judson University flew in. The Trojans were unable to overcome a rough patch in the second quarter and fell to the Eagles, 45-61.

With their best opening quarter of the new year, the Trojans came out strong after securing possession from the tip-off. Three Trojans came off the bench to add to the initial sixteen points with Kaiya Albert, Twanasia Graves, and Ashley Geisler each dropping a trey. Sophomore Da'Naria Washington led the way with four points in the first quarter while Amber Reynolds also banged a three pointer from far off the arc. TIU shot over 66% percent from the three point arc in the first quarter, while holding Judson to just 30%. The Trojans carried a two point lead into the second quarter, 16-14, but unfortunately struggled to hit the twine in the second stanza and went into the halftime break behind 29-20.

Catching steam again, Trinity grabbed back to back buckets early in the third quarter to close the scoreline to 24-31. With six minutes remaining, the Eagles increased their lead as the Trojans continued to push forward though never coming closer than seven points before the quarter break. In the fourth, Trinity seemed to garner momentum as Audree Peck and Reynolds drained back to back three-pointers, bringing the score to 40-46, but Judson broke up the run quickly on the next possession. The Eagles then hit an extended run of scoring and defeated the Trojans 45-61 at the final buzzer.

Sophomore Audree Peck continues to dominate under the boards as she put up a career best 14 rebounds, out rebounding all others on the court. Da'Naria Washington led the team in assists with six, averaging a season-leading 4.6 per outing. The Trojans are currently averaging 4.1 blocks per game, placing them 15th in the nation.

Trinity(2-15) is back on the road again next week for a pair of road games. First up, on Thursday they travel to Watertown, Wisconsin for a non-conference match-up against the Sabercats of Maranatha Baptist University. Tip off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
