Trinity defeats the Wolves in CCAC action

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. --- Last night the Trojans took the short trip north to battle with the Wolves of Cardinal Stritch in their first in a short run of conference games. After forty minutes, they increased their win streak and defeated the Wolves 89-70.

Opening up with a bang, senior forward Diamond Presniakovas dropped a trey just 13 seconds after the tip. Stritch answered with a layup before the Trojans hit their largest run of points in the stanza, stringing together nine unanswered points. As the clock ticked in the first half, the Trojans increased their lead by as many as 16 points, with Presniakovas continuing to lead the way, dropping 11 points and four rebounds. Senior transfer student, Asher Blum, followed close behind with 10 points and two rebounds en route to a season best performance in multiple categories. At the break, the Trojans led 46-32.

Carrying over their first half dominance, the Trojans started hot again with another run of nine points before the Wolves interrupted with a bucket from the perimeter. While Trinity was unable to string together any larger runs on the scoreboard, their lead never faltered. With six and a half minutes remaining, the Wolves made one final push to close the score gap as TIU held their largest lead of the night, 83-52. After the buzzer sounded, the Trojans walked away with their third consecutive victory.

A season's best for Asher Blum, the senior dropped a total of 23 points and snatched two rebounds while shooting perfect from the charity line and 9-13 beyond the arc. Presniakovas came close behind with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. As a team, the Trojans doubled the Wolves in points scored from turnover and nearly doubled their points from the bench.

The Trojans(8-6) are on the road again this weekend, this time headed south to face the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University. Saturday's tip off is scheduled for 3:00pm at McHie Arena.
