TIU falls in weekend series with Titans

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Trojans battled over the span of three days in another CCAC clash. Taking on the Titans of Indiana University of South Bend, Trinity hosted the first game on Friday afternoon before traveling to Indiana for the doubleheader on Sunday. When the three game series wrapped up, the Titans completed the sweep.

Game One: TIU 1, IUSB 11
Trinity scored their first and only run in the second inning as Jimmy Cisneros led off for the Trojans with a single to center field. After Diego Lopez came in as pinch runner, he took second on a passed ball before making the run home on another hit by Christian Soria-Navarro.

The third inning saw solid defense by both teams as they held the other to minimal batters but resistance faltered for the Trojans in the fourth as the Titans scored four runs and jumped ahead. Cisneros collected a second single, trying to ignite Trinity's response but the effort fell short.

IU South Bend scored two more in the fifth inning after clever baserunning garnered three stolen bases.

With the game still in reach, the Trojans connected at the plate as they made contact nearly every at bat but the Titan's defense wouldn't crack. IU SB racked up five more runs in the top of the ninth inning to secure the Trojans' defeat.

Game Two: TIU 4, IUSB 12
After a day of rest, the Trojans looked to turn things around on the road. The Titans took a one run lead in the second, but Trinity answered quickly with three in the next inning.

Veteran Blake Lazaris cracked a single down the third baseline to start the bats swinging for TIU, followed by Ethan Oskroba who took the plate staring at two outs and collected a base hit and RBI. Sloppy pitching from the Titans handed the Trojans two bases as Brady Popovich walked and Addison Hickman was hit by the pitch. Freshman Elisa Marquez recorded a single RBI to round out Trinity's offensive production in the third inning. The Titans responded swiftly, taking back four runs and a 3-5 lead.

The IU South Bend offensive lit up in the fourth inning, scoring six runs.

Trinity scored one more in the top of the fifth after Riley Murphy took his base, then advanced from a double to left field from Oskroba. Popopvich secured the RBI on his ground out.

Michael Zelko took the loss for the Trojans, going for 3.1 innings. Ethan Oskroba came in as a relief to finish the game.

Game Three: TIU 1, IUSB 8
A tight game in the initial two innings, the Titans scored first in the bottom of the third inning before adding three more in the fourth.

Trinity grabbed their lone run of the game in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a pair of errors by the home side.

IU South Bend scored three more in the bottom of the seventh and the Trojans were unable to mount the comeback.

The Trojans(11-14, 1-7) continue CCAC action with a single game against the Roosevelt Lakers tomorrow afternoon at 2:00pm.
