TIU falls to Olivet Nazarene at home

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Trinity International stepped out on the TIU Softball Field one final time yesterday afternoon for a conference clash with the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene University. Unfortunately, the Trojans fell to the run-rule in both outings as the visitors from Bourbonnais swept the doubleheader.

Game One: TIU 1, ONU 12
The Tigers raced off to a quick lead with five runs in the first two innings while holding TIU to a one base hit from Alisyn Fullingim. After tightening the screws defensively in innings three and four, the Trojans put one on the board in the bottom of the third. A couple of pitching miscues from the Tigers put back to back Trojans on base when Heather Anderson slammed a base hit to center field, scoring one.

Josie Nelson collected her fifth double of the season to try and get things started in the bottom of the fourth but the offensive comeback failed to materialize for Trinity. On the other hand, the Tigers took off in the top of the fifth with seven runs to threaten the Trojans with the run rule. Casey Cousino recorded a single to right field, but TIU couldn't string together any further offense and the game was called at five innings.

Game Two:
TIU 2, ONU 10
Off to a strong start in the second game, the Trojans matched the Tigers 2-for-2 with runs in the opening inning. Freshman Gigi Redman led off with a triple before Alayla Thornton smashed her fifth home run of the season and third in as many days to score two for TIU.

The Tigers scored seven runs in the second and third innings to take a substantial lead, while the Trojans' promising offensive momentum in the first inning struggled to gain traction as they recorded just two additional hits before falling again to the run rule.

Trinity International (5-29) play their final game of the season on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Trinity Christian College for a doubleheader.
