Quick Notes
• The Trojans begin conference play this week, as Trinity heads to Judson for a mid-week matchup before returning home to face Purdue-Calumet on Saturday. Kickoff against the Eagles is set for 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Peregrines will visit Schartner Field at 2:00 p.m. on Sept. 27.
• Trinity International went 1-1 last week, with a tough 2-1 loss at Moody Bible, and a 16-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan.
• With another victory this week, the Trojans will match their win total from last season before reaching even the halfway mark of 2014.
• The Trojans currently rank second in the CCAC with 25 goals on the year, and are 14th on the NAIA leaderboard. Judson is 4th in the conference with 18 goals scored, while Purdue-Calumet have seven goals, good for 9th in the CCAC.
Last Time Out
• Facing an Iowa Wesleyan squad with just nine men on the roster, Trinity International scored 16 goals on their way to a 16-0 win.
• Three Trojans recorded hat tricks in the game, as Zach Reget, Wes Ditchfield, and Andrew Pierce all had three goals against the Tigers.
• Earlier in the week, TIU fell on the road to NCCAA Division II champions Moody Bible, 2-1. Reget scored the lone goal for the Trojans in the 60th minute, but TIU couldn't find the equalizer despite outshooting their opponents 15-9.
• The win over Iowa Wesleyan snapped a two-game slide for the Trojans, as TIU wrapped up their non-conference schedule with a 3-4 record.
40th Anniversary
• This season marks the 40th anniversary of the 1974 NCCAA National Championship, won by Trinity College. The Trojans were one of four Christian colleges to be invited to the tournament, which was in its third year of existance.
• Hosted by Covenant College (Ga.), Trinity College defeated Bryan (Tenn.) 3-2 in the semifinals, before earning a 2-1 win over Messiah (Pa.).
• The 2014 squad will honor the NCCAA Champions with a special patch on their warmup jackets. The Trinity Soccer shield is featured in gold trim, along with a gold star above the shield, signifying the program's lone national title.
• Since 1974, Trinity has made 5 appearances in the NCCAA National Tournament, most recently in 2008. The Trojans hold a 7-5 record in NCCAA Tournament play.
Stat Leaders
Team Stats
• As a team, Trinity International ranks 2nd in the CCAC in points (72), goals (25), goals per game (3.57), assists (22), and assists per game (3.14). Currently leading each of those categories ahead of the Trojans is Roosevelt.
• Nationally, TIU ranks 7th in the NAIA in both assists and assists per game, as well as shots on goal per game, at 11.14.
• The Trojans currently average the second-fewest fouls per match, at 6.2. Only Calumet St. Joseph (5.43 fouls per match) has fewer.
• Defensively, the Trojans average 1.71 goals allowed per game, ranking 7th in the CCAC. Trojan goalkeepers have averaged 4.57 saves in each match, the third-highest average in the league. TIU has one shutout on the year, against Iowa Wesleyan, but are three more clean sheets off the conference lead, held by Olivet Nazarene.
Individual Stats
• Two Trojans are in the conference top ten goals list, led by Zach Reget with six (4th in CCAC), and Wes Ditchfield with four (8th in CCAC). Reget has the league's third-highest goals-per-match average, at 1.20.
• Erik Yamane is tied for fifth in the CCAC, with four assists. he also ranks 23rd in the NAIA in total assists, and 39th in assists per game, at 0.57.
• Reget is also on the national leaderboard, as his six goals this season place him 27th nationally. The sophomore has 14 total points on the year, good for 29th in the NAIA and 5th in the CCAC.
Goalkeeping Performances
• Against Bethel (Ind.) on Aug. 26, sophomore Brad Stough made 13 saves in a 3-1 loss. His 13 saves are the seventh-highest single-match total in the NAIA to date.
• The 13 saves were the most by a Trojan goalkeeper since 2008, when Lucas Zicher made 17 stops in a 2-1 loss to Hope (Mich.) on Sept. 5.
• Stough currently leads the CCAC with an .793 save percentage, and is one of seven keepers in the league with a shutout this season
• Senior Sean Avila has started three of the last four matches for the Trojans, and has a goals against average of 1.71, tied with Stough for 5th in the CCAC.
Scouting the Opponents
Judson
• The Eagles held an unbeaten record until last weekend, when they suffered a 5-0 defeat on the road at Mount Mercy (Iowa). Judson also opened their conference slate earlier, with a 1-1 draw at Purdue-Calumet.
• The team is averaging 2.57 goals per game, which ranks 4th in the CCAC. Defensively, their 1.52 goals against average is also 4th-best in the conference.
• Junior forward Walter Lopez leads the CCAC with nine goals on the year, and is tied for 6th nationally in the NAIA. Senior Santiago Munoz is 6th in the NAIA with six total assists.
• Goalkeeper Jarod Schieler is second in the conference with a 1.27 goals against average.
• Judson holds an 8-0-1 record against Trinity International since 2007, and have won the past four meetings.
Purdue-Calumet
• The Peregrines are searching for their first win in their last three matches, after winning two of their first three to start the season. PUC will host Trinity Christian in a mid-week matchup before travelling to Deerfield and facing the Trojans.
• PUC has been shut out twice this season through six matches, and have scored just one goal three other times.
• Purdue-Calumet is averaging 1.17 goals per match, and are tied for 9th in the CCAC. They boast one of the better defenses in the league however, and their 1.41 goals against average is third-best in the league.
• Goalkeeper Miguel David has a goals against average of 1.32, and ranks 3rd in the CCAC.
• The Trojans and Peregrines met for the first time ever last season, with the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
Good Sports
• For the second time in the past three seasons, the Trinity International men's soccer team earned the CCAC Karl Boeck Conference Champions of Character Team Award. The team honor goes to the squad that displays the best sportsmanship throughout the season in the CCAC, which the Trojans have earned in both 2011 and 2013.
• Currently, Trinity is the team with the longest streak without a red card in the CCAC, and have gone five full seasons since seeing one of their players sent off. They were also one of three teams in the league (Olivet Nazarene, Trinity Christian) without a red card in 2013.
