DEERFIELD, Ill. - Trinity Volleyball head coach
Luke Ward has announced the signing of three new Trojans, set to join the program in the fall of 2017, in Madeline and Jacqueline Decker (Kenosha, Wisc./Christian Life HS), and Masey Schmedes (Geneva, Ill./Geneva HS).
Madeline and Jacqueline Decker come to Trinity after playing as a dominant hitter and setter combo for Christian Life HS, where they won two WIAA regional championships. A three-time All-Midwest Classic Conference First Team selection, Madeline set the Christian Life HS career record with 1,428 kills, and as a sophomore set the single-season school record with 589 kills in 2014. Re-writing the record books for their school, Jacqueline also set new career marks, becoming the all-time leader in assists with 2,051 entering this season. Her 718 assists in the 2014 season also went down as a school record.
"Jacqueline and Madeline are great additions to our program," said Ward. "Jacqueline is an athletic and competitive setter who does a nice job running the offense who is strong in her faith and an exciting addition to the team. Madeline can hit from anywhere on the court, is a natural born leader, and a player who is disciplined, passionate, and knows what she wants."
"I chose Trinity because of the authentic Christian atmosphere," said Jacqueline on her decision to join the Trojans. "TIU offers everything that I have been looking for, both academically and athletically." Madeline added, "I believe God opened a door for me at Trinity, and it has everything I was wanting in a college."
Schmedes helped to lead Geneva HS to three Upstate Eight conference championships, and was twice named the Vikings' most improved player. "Masey comes from one of the most competitive 4A schools in the state of Illinois," said Ward. "She knows how to play at a high level already and she is incredibly mature in regards to academics and her spiritual growth. All three of the ladies will continue to help shape the culture surrounding TIU Volleyball."
"My hope was to play volleyball at a Christian university," said Schmedes on signing with Trinity. "I wanted to continue playing the sport I love and surround myself with people that will push me to continue to grow my faith. Trinity International University is not too far from home, so I am excited that I will still be able to be present in my younger brothers' lives. I love the atmosphere of TIU's campus and I am thrilled to have found a school that hits everything on my wish list."
