Box Score 2 CHICAGO, Ill. - Gabby Miller recorded a team-high eight kills in the first game, while
Lexie Voss paced Trinity International with eight kills in game two, as the Trojans took two straight-set victories on Saturday afternoon at the Moody Bible (Ill.) Tri-Match. The Trojans knocked off Randall (Okla.) 25-18, 25-21, 25-9 in the first match of the day, then defeated the host Archers 25-17, 25-16, 25-23 in game two.
Saturday's sweep marks the first time since 2011 that Trinity (6-14) took two wins out of a tri-match. It's also the first back-to-back straight-set victories since Sept. 6-7, 2014.
A balanced attack against Randall resulted in Miller hitting for a .500 percentage, while
Ashlyn Spay recorded seven kills and a .316 percentage and
Mickayla Staal posted six kills at a .429 clip. In game two, the Trojans saw three players average at least two kills per set, in Voss (8), Spay (7), and Miller (6). Freshman
Piper Thompson averaged 9.2 assists on the day, finishing with 28 and 27 assists in both games respectively.
Defensively,
Becca Kowalczuk and
Taylor Weinberger each posted double-digit digs in both matches. Alida Knudton was dominant at the net, with seven block assists against Randall, coming up just one short of the TIU single-game record for a three-set match.
The Trojans now prepare to resume CCAC play this Tuesday night, when they travel to Roosevelt. First serve with the Lakers is set for 7:00 p.m.
